Project name: IH-MIE – Interregional Hydrogen Mobility Initiative for Europe
.
Project aim and description:
IH-MIE addresses critical challenges in advancing hydrogen mobility, reducing regional disparities, and empowering SMEs to drive the green transition across Europe. Transport accounts for nearly 25% of Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions, and hydrogen offers a transformative, zero-emission solution for decarbonizing sectors such as heavy-duty transport and public transit, where battery-electric options face limitations.
.
The project establishes a Hydrogen Mobility Interregional Hub to foster innovation, coordinate investments, and build capacity across European regions. By advancing technologies from TRL 6 to TRL 9, IH-MIE supports 30 SMEs through cascade funding, mentoring, and training, while 7 SMEs will lead innovative demonstration projects that create scalable, real-world hydrogen mobility use cases.
.
IH-MIE connects advanced regions (Aragón, Île-de-France, Noord-Brabant) with transition and less-developed regions (Galicia, Normandy, Podkarpackie, Moravian-Silesian, Norte, Kurzeme, Castilla-La Mancha) to strengthen cohesion, competitiveness, and the resilience of the hydrogen mobility ecosystem. Aligned with the EU Green DealHydrogen Strategy, and Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3), IH-MIE contributes to climate neutrality by promoting sustainable transport, green growth, and SME-led innovation.
.
Project objectives & activities:
Obj. 1: Strengthen Europe’s hydrogen mobility ecosystem by connecting regions and clusters to form an Interregional Hydrogen Hub and promote coordinated investments in hydrogen infrastructure and technology.
Obj. 2: Support SMEs and regional clusters in scaling hydrogen mobility innovations through cascade funding, technical mentoring, and business development.
Obj. 3: Advance hydrogen technologies to higher TRLs (6–9) and validate them through seven demonstration projects in real-world environments.
Obj. 4: Enhance regional innovation capacity and reduce disparities between developed and less-developed regions through targeted capacity-building actions.
Obj. 5: Promote international cooperation, visibility, and market access for European hydrogen mobility solutions through cross-border collaboration and policy alignment.
Obj. 6: Ensure effective dissemination, communication, and exploitation of project results, highlighting Europe’s leadership in sustainable hydrogen mobility.
